Cask Music is Leaving Leslieville - FAQ
Why is the Leslieville location closing?
This is a big question whose answer is complicated in both personal and professional ways. The short answer is that the current version of the business has too many moving parts to run with such a small team, and is incompatible with my personal life. I don’t live in Toronto anymore, have a family, and I can’t give Leslieville Cask Music the resources it needs to thrive and grow organically. The city of Toronto has also quickly become less friendly to small business than it once was, but that’s a larger discussion...
What’s next for Cask Music?
While I’m leaving Queen E, I will continue selling online with very minimal interruption. I have some great new plans to improve the caskmusic.ca and social media experience, and will continue finding the most interesting and exciting gear to offer. There will be a new base of operations coming soon, but it won’t be in Leslieville.
What is happening to ‘all the gear’?
Nothing unexpected! It’s still for sale. I’ll be more motivated to unload some of it. See next.
Are you having sales?
I will try to thin the herd a bit to make moving easier, so there will be some sales planned. These will be well advertised. Don’t hold out for any piece of gear to drop to clearance pricing though. That likely won’t happen with most items. Some consignment items will no longer be available after the move, so if you have been considering taking one of these home, I would suggest pulling the trigger soon, or making a reasonable offer before it's too late. There will also be sales on accessories and store fixtures, both music-specific, and not.
What is happening to the service department?
I will continue servicing and refurbishing guitars. Taking on new jobs will take a brief hiatus while the next physical space is ironed out. The amplifier and the electronic service department offerings will likely change. Stay tuned for more info.
I have an instrument/amplifier/pedal being serviced. Will it be completed? Is it safe? Can I pick it up?
Your gear is safe! I’m not going anywhere in a hurry. I plan to have all current service orders completed within the expected timeline, and made ready for pickup. In the unlikely event that delays happen, or the pickup schedule doesn’t work for you, your gear will be safely stored and we’ll get it back to you.
I have an instrument being sold on consignment. Is it safe? Can I pick it up?
Your gear is safe! I’m not going anywhere in a hurry. I will be reaching out to all current consignors to discuss next steps. As the business is continuing, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to sell your gear for you with some amended terms, but since the situation is changing, you will definitely be permitted to take your gear back home if necessary. If you’d like to sell it outright to simplify things, we can discuss this option.
